Samuel Lucas Allen

Samuel Lucas Allen, is an award winning mostly losing writer and director working across film, theatre and anywhere else; tall tales are welcome.

Currently, Sam is in distribution for their film 'Cut', a coming-of-age drama about Jewishness,Queerness and the internet alt-right. Cut had its Premiere at Vancouver international film festival,Won Best Editing at Canberra short film festival and has been nominated for best director andbest short at the Melbourne queer film festival. Their film 'After Saturn' a devised family drama,was nominated for best director at CinniFest Oz and Best Score at St Kilda and took home BestShort Director at the Kansas Arthouse Film Festival. 'Plastic', was nominated for Best MusicVideo and Best Experimental Film at the ATOM awards, and Best Editing of a music video at theASE awards. 'Only The Beautiful' saw them nominated for Best Director at Sanford InternationalFilm Festival, and their first film, ‘School Night’ was nominated for a Robin Anderson Film Award.

They have directed over 30 productions for stage and screen, including 'The Teaching ofDarkness' at Chester St Theatre, 'The Viagra Monologues' at the Blood Moon theatre, and ’Blood Wedding' at the LendLease Theatre.

At NIDA, Sam directed 'Fool for Love'' by Sam Shepard with the Actors Centre Australia;devised 'SEX DEATH AND THE INTERNET' with the Queensland University of Technology;created and co-directed 'The Invisible Bird', a new opera for Sydney Chamber Opera'; directed

and adapted 'Wake in Fright' for their NIDA graduation show; and wrote and directed 'Plastic', amusic video for MICRA. After graduating, Sam was commissioned to return to NIDA to write and direct a new production of 'Dracula'.

They are currently in preproduction for a new short and in development for a TV show and a Feature Film. Sam aims to continue doing work in theatre and film with a particular focus on

devised film work and the development of new and established theatre work.
